March arrived like a little lamb; we all know what that means. Brace yourselves!
March marksĀ National Crochet Month and Women’s History Month, and I thought I’d write about both this month…and sometimes both together.
I’ll start by asking you two questions:
1. What do you like about crochet (don’t crochet? what’s stopping you?)
2. Who is a woman you admire (from history, public life, or your personal life) and why?
If you have a blog and write about either crochet or women’s history, be sure to leave a link. I’d love to read what you have to say on either topic!
The problem I have with crochet is following directions. I know the basic stitches but I get confused when trying to follow them written down. For the record, I have no such trouble with following knitting directions. Am I just weird?
A woman I admire is Hilary Clinton. Love her or hate her, you’ve got to respect the paths she’s blazed for the rest of us.
Heh! You are not weird! I’m teaching knitters to crochet, and some of them find the directions puzzling, too. I’ll be telling a story about my gram and crochet directions this month!
I agree with you about Hilary Clinton. I wasn’t such a fan when she was First Lady or a junior Senator from NY, but now I can’t get enough of her. Fingers crossed for a presidential run!
Crochet tends to hurt my wrist after an hour or so. That’s my primary objection to it.
I admire the writer and professor Alice Sheldon, who published SF under the pseudonym James Tiptree, Jr. and won many awards.
I have limits to how long I can crochet for the same reason. I do better with the Clover hooks with bigger handles on them.
I’ll look into Alice Sheldon. I’m not familiar with her work! Thanks for telling me about her.
Like another commenter, I know that crochet stitches but sometimes have a hard time following a pattern. Having said that, I HAVE made a couple shawls and a summer top… but that was all 30+ years ago.
Hilary Clinton and Michelle Obama. Smart, positive, self-confident women. Who raised daughters!
