Eleven years ago, my beloved New York, my beloved United States: attacked. The terror and fear I felt have mellowed, but the sorrow is as sharp as the moment I walked down to the train platform and saw smoke curling into the sky from the two proud towers.

I thought about that day as I wrote the date in my journal this morning–impossible to write that date and not think of it. That day was a morning much like the one we have here in Portland today–gorgeous clear day. You’re right–the sorrow remains.
