The new Knitty is up, but you probably knew that, right? I haven’t made it through all of the patterns yet, but Romi’s Ice Queen is making me light headed from its swoonyness (yes, that is a word. I said so.). I plan to make it and wear it often, living out my fantasies of being the Ice Queen myself. Ok, the Snow Queen, but I’ll be ice skating and my heart will be as frozen as the water below me. I"ll stop now. You get the drift, though, right? I love that pattern with all the coldness of a Snow Queen.
Right.
So there is a new month on the calendar, another 26 days in which I can Clean my Slate for 2008. I’ve done some frogging, and I’ve done some finishing, and I’ve done lots of knitting. Mostly I’ve been pushing to finish Socks for Maggie. I’m nearly done with the heel, and then it’s a fast cruise to the toe. I hope to finish this weekend; I want to turn my attention to some Christmas knitting next week.
I’m nearing the end of both of my semesters–one as a teacher, one as a student. My novella is with my dissertation chair, and I’ll be spending the break on revisions. As a teacher, I’ve got a pretty light week next week. Conferences on Monday and Wednesday, wrap-up day on Friday, and collect papers the following Monday. This full-time teaching load has been great in terms of the extra income, but it’s been a real struggle to handle it in addition to my dissertation work. If I didn’t take breaks for knitting and reading blogs and seeing my crafty chicas, I’d be outside, crying in the icey snow, no Ice Queen to warm my bursting head.
Those breaks, along with walks in the woods with my mutts, keep me in some sort of semblance of balance. What do you do for balance?
And, hey, as long as your commenting, what are you loving in this new issue of Knitty?
I can’t wait to see your Ice Queen. I went out this morning to look for a good color for me, and wasn’t happy with what I saw. I think the hunt is on.
You’re so good at finding a balance. I really need to work on that.
Both of my daughters stood behind me and oohed and aahed over Snow Queen; I didn’t bother pointing out they could knit since it is out of mohair and madre here happens to have some spare balls of Rowan Kidsilk Haze just gathering dust. Now, can I get it done in time for Christmas?
Dahlia looks lovely (for one of the girls) and I quite like Fair Isle Rapids . . . or is it the photo of the designer?
I really like ice queen too! I’m also thinking of trying Quant. I’ve never tried entrelac before, and this seems like a good small project to delve into.
And I kinda like the kilt hose too. I don’t know anyone who wears a kilt, but I think a person could also wear the with a jean skirt? What do you think?
Am I the last person to see the new issue go up? I swear I was on the site last night and wondering when we’d see a new issue.
I saw Ice Queen and gasped. It’s EXACTLY the pattern I was looking for for the cashmere blend I’ve been spinning. I knew I wanted to knit myself a lacy smoke-ring-like thing and hadn’t yet seen what I wanted. I was ready to design one myself. 🙂 Still going through the issue now, but Ice Queen is already in my Ravelry queue. 🙂
The Ice Queen is gorgeous. And I think it would drive me bonkers trying to knit it. I leave it to you to do a fabulous job on it and proudly show it off.
No, out of this issue the only thing speaking to me are the socks. And the cabled stole. Which might also be crazy-making, but worth it.
(Psst. The socks look wonderful.)
Definitely Jeanie. It is like a dream come true for me! I think it is genius. Now to find yarn for it…
I don’t know that I’ll actually knit any of these, but Tudora (neckwarmer), Dahlia, Abotanicity, and Stardust caught my eye.
My balance left two years ago. A long ramble along the woods and fields will temporarily restore it.
Ice Queen is fabulous. The kilt socks also catch my eye – for myself. 🙂
I’m so glad you like Ice Queen! It’ll look gorgeous on you. 🙂
