Dogs and Deadwood

I had a cup of coffee and my final issue of Real Simple (love the magazine, just trying to simplify the number that I read) out on the deck, Tilly on the chaise with me.  Neal was in a nearby chair reading brochures about dog foods we might want to start feeding the girls.  Up he hopped, grabbed his dog for a close inspection.  I jumped up, started and freaked out by what was revealed:  a sore spot on our girl’s back.  I’ve spared you a picture, and I’ll spare you a vivid description, but this spot must be the size of a quarter.  A quick trip to the vet got us a topical spray to help it heal and also let us know that it’s nothing to worry about.  For me, it was reason 17 for not wanting kids–I can’t bear to see my dogs injured, hurting, unhappy…imagine if they were little humans?  It was startling in part because we both spend a lot of time petting our dogs.  Not only is this a show of our affection for the dogs, but also an opportunity to check for any bumps or bugs.

And, for the Kafkaesque K, I’ve got to confirm her review.  Deadwood is intense.  I’m only on the second episode, and I don’t know how I’m going to wait for Netflix to send the next dvd.  I think this is to 2006 for me what Sex in the City was for 2005.

  1. We’ve been hooked on Deadwood – sometimes we have trouble figuring out what they’re saying, good thing we have Tivo and closed captioning! I cannot tell you how many times we go back! How about Six Feet Under, we were so hooked on that one too!

  2. I’m not a big fan of Deadwood (I really tried) but I loved Kafkaesque K’s thoughts on the Calamity Jane character. I loved the one season HBO did of a series called “Carnival” but I don’t think it’s coming back.

  3. Poor Tilly, I hope she feels better soon. I’ve never seen or heard of Deadwood… comes from living in a social vacuum. I’ve heard of Sex in the City and that a lot people enjoy it. But for some unknown reason, I just can’t stand Sarah Jessica Parker. I have no explanation as to why, she just bugs me. I recently finished all of the Curb Your Enthusiasm series from HBO, courtesy of Netflix. I enjoyed watching a show about a loser, it makes me feel better about my life. Scratch Tilly under the chin for me (save cyber pats to the back until she’s cleared up). Cheers!

  4. Hi, just read your comment at the pincushion challenge blog asking about tips for felting a cashmere jumper…if you are still looking for some input let me know!

  5. I get Real Simple, too. They usually have great ideas to simplify our lives. Now, I need someone to come up with a magazine called Too Busy, because I never havce a chance to read Real Simple. I have two kids and three cats. The good thing about kids is that they can usually tell you when something’s wrong. And a pooch won’t be there when you’re old and gray.

  6. Yay! A convert! Ok, so now you have to watch all 3 seasons reallyreallyreally fast so you can see the last few minutes of season 3. One of the best last lines _ever_. I almost want the series to end, right there. But enough. I will blog about that line as soon as I finish grading 94 papers about political cartoons. Ah, the rewards of MFAs.

  7. Just finished Season 2 of Deadwood–instead of cursing I now run around screaming “SWEH-GIN” like Woo. It is amazing how quickly I became numbed to the language that would curl my mother’s hair. Can’t wait for Season 3 to come. I have really gotten into the TV via DVD thing. Newest obsession: Battlestar Gallactica
