I like to look at my blog stats. I’m already thinking about what to do for my 100th post, which is coming up soon. In the meantime, some lucky person will soon leave the 500th comment on this blog. Lucky, why? you may ask. On account of I’m going to send a sweet little handmade prize to my 500th commentor. Or should that be commentator?
I’ll even give you a question to answer: What’s the best way to felt cashmere? I have a few 100% cashmere sweaters that I want to recycle as the world’s softest felt. Any tips or tricks?
Stop lurking, you. Take a chance on winning my contest, willya?
Are you coming for sushi tomorrow??? (A Hat City Scissor Squadder)
Oh! I like contests! I don’t know about 100% cashmere, but I have felted mohair/cashmere blends and I have one word of assvice: Pillowcases. Do not try to felt without putting the object in bag or pillowcase of some kind.
Sweaters take longer to felt. Tighter knit. Remember to add some other items to the wash to help the process as well as some wool wash.
Add hot water and stir like hell;-)
Holy cow, I don’t think I could ever bring myself to felt cashmere. It seems immoral. Ha ha. Anyway, I don’t have a solution for you but I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with the felted cashmere!!
Yup, in a pillowcase fer sure, throw it in the washer, heavy duty cycle, with something else to bounce around into it, hot wash, cold rinse. Cashmere felt coming up!
I’ve never felted Cashmere. It seems like a sin, but then I’ve never been able to bring myself to felt alpaca either.
How about using your trusty pillow case, throwing in some tennis balls and washing it with woolite.
I’ve never felted cashmere so thats my best guess.
I agree about a pillow case or something to keep the sweater(s) in. I think I killed my washer felting wool. o.0
Add in a pair of jeans, set the washer for heavy duty (and hot) and use the longest cycle time-wise you have. Oh and think about using the dyer. *L* I did that when I felted a scarf because I didn’t want to wait around for it dry. I figured it was okay because I didn’t need to shape it and it was already felted.
Does this mean I get to comment spam you now? 😀 *hugs*
Or you could felt it with a plunger in the kitchen sink while standing on a stool.
For some reason, I’m dying to see someone actually do that. *L*

I have a zipper-top pillow cover from Bed Bath & Beyond, perfect for containing all those stray, washing machine-motor-clogging fibers. Turn up the temp on your hot water heater if possible or needed. Throw it in the washer on the longest cycle with 2 pairs of jeans and a little bit of soap. Repeat if necessary, and I second the dryer bit, but I wouldn’t completely dry it in the dryer, or it will get wrinkled and those wrinkles won’t ever come out! I don’t just want to see the end result, I want to FEEL it!!! Hope to see you soon!
Best way to felt cashmere: accidentally. That way it always felts completely and irrovacably!
Yipee! A contest! You were both my 100th and 300th commentor. Maybe I’ll get lucky and be your 500th!
You’re gonna FELT the cashmere??? Whoa.. that’s almost sinful *grin* Is there no way to unravel and reuse the yarn?
BTW, I’ve never felted cashmere, so I can’t offer any insight on that.
Wow. Felted cashmere. I’ve got no idea, but wow….
Everyone covered my felting advice. Good luck with it!
Thanks for visiting my blog. 🙂 I got the sock yarn blanket idea from The Heathen Housewife: http://shellykang.com/
ok bev…have no idea how to felt cashmere… but I know drinking helps when doing anything… ok… maybe not driving…. weeeelll….maybe not a lotta things…. OK . I admit it… I am just a contest wh*re… LOL. I’m number 500, right? Hee hee
Hmmmm… how would you felt cashmere? Maybe you could Gig It. Texas A & M Aggies like to Gig things. It sounds like a process that could cause some changes to occur, much like felting. Or something. 🙂 At the very least, right before you felt the cashmere, you should yell “Gig ‘Em!” really loud, just for the effect.
Sounds like everyone’s right on the hot water idea! Couldn’t resist – what number are we at know????
